Tube Piles
Reliable Deep Foundations for
Demanding Projects
Tube piles—also known as steel pipe piles—are a proven deep foundation solution used to support structures in a wide range of soil conditions. Whether installed by driving or drilling, tube piles offer exceptional load-bearing capacity, durability, and versatility, making them ideal for commercial buildings, bridges, marine infrastructure, and industrial developments.
At Lone Star Drilling, we specialize in both methods of tube pile installation: driven piles and drilled piles. The method chosen depends on the ground conditions, pile diameter, and site access. In driving applications, a hydraulic vibro hammer is used to force steel pipe piles deep into the ground. This technique is efficient in many soil types but may be challenging in dense or rocky layers.
In cases where driving isn’t practical, such as in hard ground or sensitive environments, we use pile drilling methods. This involves boring a hole to the required depth and inserting the steel tube pile, or rotating pipe pile into the ground, often followed by grouting or concrete to improve load transfer and long-term stability. Rotary drilling is commonly used when larger diameter tube piles are required or when navigating tough subsurface conditions.
Some projects require specialized piling systems, such as interlocking tube piles, which are installed using advanced techniques like rotary percussion reverse circulation drilling with air or water flush. This approach is particularly effective when boulders or other underground obstructions are present.
No matter the method, the tube pile installation process includes careful site assessment, selection of the right pile type, equipment setup, and quality-controlled installation. Once the piles are in place, grout or concrete can be used to enhance stability and load distribution. Proper bracing ensures long-term structural performance, particularly in lateral load conditions.
With the right approach and equipment, tube piles provide a strong, stable foundation capable of supporting heavy structural loads in even the most challenging environments.
